"Minni Boys Back Together Again" -@12:40 PM EST Emmitt TribuneEarlier this week there was a trade that went under the radar as it did not involve the big name players such as the flamboyant Terrell Owens or the Sack artist Shawn Merriman, but it didn't go unoticed for two young players in this league.
The year was 2004 and Marion Barber III a Minnesota Gophers Senoir and Laurence Maroney a Minnesota Gophers Sophmore were on the same team, playing in the very same backfield, and together the two set an NCAA mark. That mark was the first time two RBs on the same team ran for over 1000 yards rushing in two consecutive seasons. Some times when two RBs share carries the two but heads but that was not the case for these two. In the end Both were seperated and went onto play in the NFL(Maroney a 1st round rookie playing for the New England Patriots, Barber a second year back selected in the 4th round by the Dallas Cowboys.) and were quite successfull so far in their young careers.
The trade mentioned earlier was a big one for these two, it sent New England Patriots 2007 first round draft pick FS Brandon Meriweather and a 2008 First to the Minnesota Vikings(who aquired Barber earlier in the week)for Dwight Smith and of most noteably Marion Barber the III, reuniting the two young backs once again.
It is expected that Coach Belichick will use these two similar to how they were used at Minnesota.
Could this mean we see both Running Backs break NFL barriers and surpase 1000 yards in the same season?
I guess we will just have to wait and see.
